Leaving
Lines painted on the roadway of life leads her away from the past.
She stares to the horizon to a new place, a new way of thinking.
The asphalt is hot, sticky to the touch in the heat of the sun.
She remembers how it felt under her feet as she walked along that dreary highway.
Heat swirling around her like demons, sucking away her life force.
They taunted her with condemnations that she just was not enough.
Oh! She tried to be. Tried to be all and more.
After all she was just a girl.
She dreamed. She loved. She cried. She went silent.
She could not help it.
And now she walked the road with only the scorpion for company.
Tears did stream down her face, marking their dreary path down her cheeks cutting through the dust.
Now she was numb. Nothing would come forth.
She had been left on the side of the road like a barking dog with no purpose.
Chin up, the flying owl said as it flew into the dawn.
She lifted her chin and went on her journey.
She knew with each step she was stronger.
Someone would want her.
Someone would see her value.
The scorpion followed as did the owl.
They were her dark companions on the road to somewhere.
